Firefighters quickly extinguish dumpster fire in Isla Vista

ISLA VISTA, California- Santa Barbara County firefighters responded quickly to extinguish a dumpster fire in the parking lot of an Isla Vista apartment complex early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters reported that when they arrived on the scene shortly after midnight, the fire was already very hot, said Capt. Castellanos of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. However, firefighters managed to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes.

As a result of the fire, parts of the garbage container were destroyed.

After the fire was extinguished, wet and burnt cardboard boxes were left strewn in the parking lot behind the State Santa Barbara apartment complex.

Most of the boxes were marked “University Supplies” because Santa Barbara State served UCSB students.

The cause of the fire is being determined.
