The importance of this campaign in Valencia cannot be overestimated.

Valencia, Spainis the main entry point for drugs into Europeespecially with Latin America AND North AfricaIn one of the biggest drug raids of 2022 5.5 tons of cocaine seizedunderlining the city’s key role in international drug trafficking networks. One consequence is that large amounts of cocaine are available on the streets, price reduction the drug, not only making it easier for users to access it, but also enabling dealers to recruit new users.

“Drug production, trafficking and use continue to exacerbate instability and inequality, while causing untold harm to people’s health, safety and well-being.” Ghada Waly saidExecutive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in the June edition of the World Drug Report 2024. She also stressed the importance of “investing much more in prevention.”

According to UNODC, “Evidence-based prevention strategies, working with families, schools and communities, can ensure that children and adolescents, especially the most marginalized and poor, grow up and remain healthy and safe in adulthood and old age. For every dollar spent on prevention, at least ten dollars can be saved in future health, social and crime costs.”
