Man arrested in connection with massive drug bust on west side of South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – We’re learning more about a massive drug bust that found enough fentanyl to kill nearly everyone in our area.

A federal criminal complaint has just been filed in the Northern District of Indiana after an arrest that occurred Tuesday morning in the 700 block of S. Bendix Drive on South Bend’s west side.

We’ve reported on similar incidents before, but all we can say this time is that they were massive in scale, with hazmat crews called to the scene to decontaminate equipment and personnel.

Members of the South Bend Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team were called to the 700 block of S. Bendix Drive on July 2, 2024.(South Bend Fire Department, Local 362)

In total, police found several rifles, pistols, nearly 500 grams of marijuana and 990 grams of fentanyl. Some of that fentanyl is enough to kill nearly 500,000 people.

Several other pills are still being tested. In the meantime, 75 grams of cocaine and over 27 grams of crack cocaine were found, as well as a digital scale.

Denardo McCormack, 32, was arrested during the raid without incident.

His first federal court hearing is scheduled for next Monday, July 8.
