Metropolitan Police officer arrested on rape charges

A Metropolitan Police firearms officer has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

The police officer was arrested on June 24 in connection with crimes he allegedly committed between 2013 and last year.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “A serving police officer has been arrested on suspicion of rape and other offences.

“The officer, an inspector with the Metropolitan’s Specialist Firearms Command, was arrested on Monday 24 June.

“The crimes were allegedly committed between 2013 and 2023.

“He has been released on bail and is due to return in mid-September, pending further inquiries. He has been suspended from duty.”

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) was informed by the Met about the officer’s arrest, as is standard.

A spokesman for the police watchdog said: “On 26 June 2024, we received a mandatory conduct report from the Metropolitan Police Service following the arrest of a Met officer on suspicion of a number of offences earlier this week.

“After careful consideration of the referral, we considered that, given that the officer had already been arrested and questioned by the Metropolitan Police Professional Standards Directorate, the Metropolitan Police should continue its investigation.”
