Teen killed in Irvington Township shooting

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning in Irvington, New Jersey, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Irvington Public Safety Director Tracy Bowers announced.

At approximately 1:26 a.m. on July 3, 2024, Irvington Police officers responded to reports of a shooting in progress in the 1100 block of Grove Street.
Upon arrival, officers found a young man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 2:17 a.m.

The identity of the victim, a 17-year-old Irvington resident, cannot be released due to his age.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Irvington Police Department, is leading the investigation.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, no additional information is available at this time.
