Two women have given up their anonymity to speak out after their ex-partner Hadyn Edmonds was jailed for abuse

Two women whose ex-partner was jailed for abuse told STV News they believe he has more victims.

Hadyn Edmonds, a 37-year-old chef from Edinburgh, has been sentenced to at least nine years in prison for offences – including rape – committed between 2016 and 2019.

Maureen McDonald and Lisa Morris have now waived their right to remain anonymous and speak out.

Both women say it took some time before they felt able to report the crime to police.

Maureen said: “I was really depressed but mostly I was just angry and I couldn’t live with the hatred that was haunting me any longer.

“It got to the point where I was suicidal and thought, ‘I can’t live like this anymore.’ That’s what prompted me to report the case.”

Lisa added: “Before, I didn’t want to say anything. I was scared. I felt like it was my fault, I didn’t want to tell anyone that it had happened to me. I just felt embarrassed, which is stupid, but that’s how it was.”

Edmonds was found guilty of two counts of rape and making threats of violence.

The judge told him he showed no remorse and did not realise the serious harm he had caused.

Maureen said the most terrifying incident was trying to end the relationship.

“I grabbed my suitcase and left,” she said. “He had a samurai sword over the closet – he pulled it out and it missed my face by about an inch. He put it to my throat and wrist and said, ‘I’ll f***ing kill myself if you leave.’”

Lisa had dated Edmonds several years earlier.

“He raped me multiple times while I was asleep,” she said. “I was just numb, I couldn’t move, I couldn’t do anything. It was disgusting, but I think the tipping point was when he did it the third time. I left that night after he fell asleep and never came back.”

Maureen and Lisa are appealing to anyone who may have been a victim of Edmonds’ attack to come forward.

Katrina Parkes, Scotland’s High Court Sexual Offences Procurator Fiscal, said: “Haydn Edmonds clearly poses a risk to women. The offences he committed against these vulnerable women are reprehensible.

“The courage of his victims who reported him to the authorities is a testament to their enormous strength and courage, and they should be commended for that.

“I hope this conviction brings some relief to Edmonds who now has to face the consequences of his depraved behaviour.

“We urge any victim of a similar crime to report the matter and seek help.

“We will take you seriously, we will listen to you, and we will use every tool at our disposal to seek justice.”
