  • The Russian, who can sometimes be hot-tempered, won in four sets 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 7-5
  • Medvedev felt embarrassed when he thought the first set was over before the end

Daniil Medvedev hilariously sat down during the first set of his match against Alexandre Muller at Wimbledon, while it was still in progress.

The 28-year-old Russian tennis player Medvedev, ranked 5th in the world, faced the outsider from France on Centre Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Medvedev is known for his short tempers, which is why he seemed nervous when the first set went wrong and went to a tie-break.

Muller was causing his opponent a lot of problems and after Medvedev’s long-range shot gave the Frenchman a 6-3 lead, Muller angrily ran to his seat, gesticulating and shouting at his coaches.

As he sat down and picked up his towel, he seemed to once again let his team know the set was over when asked about it.

The Russian thought the set was already decided, but in the tie-break he lost to Muller only 6-3
When asked by the coaches, Medvedev repeated again that the set had indeed ended.

However, he quickly realized that the tie-break was not over yet and, embarrassed, returned to his position on the court.

Medvedev’s gaffe had no impact on the result, with Muller winning the tie-break 7-3.

Medvedev, however, fought bravely and won the next three sets 7-6 (4), 6-4, 7-5, which allowed him to advance to the third round of the tournament.

Reflecting on his victory, the Russian was relieved but admitted that he did not like playing on the main stage at Wimbledon.

“To be honest, it was a great match,” he said. “There were moments when it wasn’t as easy as the score would suggest.

The world number five player later explained that he does not like playing on Wimbledon’s centre court.

“So I’m really happy with my level. I’ve still never lost on Court 1, so I hope I can play many more matches on that court.

“Last year before the semi-final I said that unfortunately I had to play on centre court and I lost.

“I was lucky this year, I was able to practice on centre court before the tournament, so maybe that will give me an advantage in the future, but for now I want to play on court number 1 and try to win.”
