Cleveland police officer murder suspect identified

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Fox 8 Investigative Team has uncovered new information about the suspect arrested for the murder of an on-duty Cleveland police officer Thursday morning.

Charges of aggravated murder were filed against 24-year-old Delawnte Hardy. He was booked into the Cuyahoga County Jail.


The complaint simply stated: “at 3:10 p.m. E. 80t PL Cleveland, OH, Delawnte Hardy did indeed shoot a police officer.

The shooting happened early Thursday morning. In a brief news conference, Cleveland Police Chief W. W. didn’t provide many details about the incident, but said the suspect was wanted for assault and fired multiple shots.

The name of the officer who was shot has not been released at this time. Fox 8 News understands the deceased officer was 27 years old and a four-year veteran of the force.

Hardy is scheduled to appear Friday morning in Cleveland Municipal Court.
