Man extradited to Romania to serve prison sentence

04/07/2024

A 33-year-old man was extradited from Northern Ireland to Romania where he was to serve a six-year and four-month prison sentence for violent theft.

The man was arrested by local police in Ballymena on 27th November 2019 and extradition proceedings concluded on Wednesday 3rd July with his successful extradition to Romania.

Sergeant Davey, of the International Police Unit, said: “We continue to work with our international partners to identify and arrest individuals wanted in other jurisdictions. In this case, we worked closely with the National Crime Agency and the Romanian authorities to locate, arrest and later extradite this individual.

“If fugitives travel to Northern Ireland to avoid the consequences of their previous crimes, it is only a matter of time before they are arrested and extradited. Our message is clear that we will relentlessly pursue those who attempt to delay or deny justice to victims of crime.”
