A Surprise for Students – Palm Beach Florida Weekly

Ten lucky high school seniors in South Florida had a lot to celebrate. They each received $20,000 toward college.

Florida Power & Light surprised college-bound students by awarding them the NextEra Energy Scholarship for Students in Science, Engineering, Communication, Mathematics and Enrichment.

The NextEra Energy Scholarship for SECME Students is a merit award of up to $20,000 awarded to high school seniors who plan to pursue a full-time bachelor’s degree at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the upcoming academic year.

This year’s scholarship recipients are:

1. Alexis N. Idun-Ogde (American High School, Hialeah)

2. Daniel Perodin (Miami Palmetto Senior High School, Miami)

3. Elisha M. Jackson (Palm Beach Gardens High School, Palm Beach Gardens)

4. Gianna F. Roberts (School of Advanced Studies, Homestead)

Following the surprise, students and their families celebrated with a party at Manatee Lagoon, FPL Eco-Discovery Center in Rivera Beach.
