Famous killer stabs prison guard

A notorious killer who was sentenced to decades in prison for brutally stabbing a sex worker in a bloody massacre attacked a prison guard with a makeshift weapon.

Mert Ney shocked Sydney in August 2019 when he murdered Michaela Dunn and ran through the streets brandishing a knife, stabbing another woman before he was overpowered by brave good Samaritans.

He was sentenced to more than 40 years in prison, with High Court Judge Peter Johnson describing his actions as a “vicious, brutal and horrific attack without provocation”.

Ney is being held at the state’s most secure prison, Goulburn Supermax.

It is known that Ney attacked a prison guard on Friday morning.

The police officer was taken to hospital in stable condition.

“On Friday 5 July 2024 at approximately 10.30am, an inmate used a prison-made firearm to attack an officer in the High Risk Management Unit at Goulburn Correctional Centre,” a Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said.

The weapon was taken from Ney while other officers secured the scene.

The incident is being investigated by police and a Prison Service spokeswoman said charges would be laid.

Ney was sentenced to 44 years in prison with 33 years’ probation for the murder of Michaela Dunn.
