SHAWN LEMON SUSPENDED IMMEDIATELY

TORONTO (July 4, 2024) – An independent arbitrator has ruled that the suspension of Montreal Alouettes defensive lineman Shawn Lemon for betting on Canadian Football League (CFL) games, including one in which he played, will be effective immediately.

The league initially suspended Mr. Lemon on April 24. After an appeal, he was allowed to return to the field until a scheduled arbitration hearing on July 5. When Mr. Lemon and his representative requested an adjournment of the hearing until Aug. 1 or 2, the CFL requested an immediate suspension.

The arbitrator ordered the hearing to be immediately suspended until a hearing is justified and reasonable.

On August 1-2, the arbitrator will hear from the CFL, Mr. Lemon and his representative before making a final decision regarding the discipline of betting on CFL games in 2021 while he was a member of the Calgary Stampeders.
