ESCANABA — Bay College is raising student tuition and fees for the upcoming academic year.

According to the press release, there is “humble” increase in tuition and student fees for the 2024-2025 academic year. The increase in tuition fees is an average of 3.5%.

This means the amount per credit hour increases depending on where the student lives, as Delta County residents and students from other areas pay different rates.

Delta County residents can expect to pay $155 per credit, while Dickinson County residents can expect to pay $231 per credit. The tuition per credit for in-state students is $267, and for out-of-state students, $327. Finally, for international students, the cost is a total of $361 per credit.

The announcement said that although tuition fees are increasing, accommodation costs will remain the same to “support accessibility and affordability for students.” The increase was approved by the Bay College Board of Trustees, which also approved an increase in the Student Development Fee of $2 per hour of instruction.

According to the Bay College website, Delta County residents will pay $6,120 and Dickinson County residents $8,400 for tuition and fees for two semesters of 15 credit hours each.

Residents of certain counties in Wisconsin are eligible for Michigan tuition, including Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Brown, Burnette, Door, Douglas, Florence, Iron, Kewaunee, Langdale, Lincoln, Marinette, Oconto, Oneida, Polk, Rusk, Sawyer, Shawano, Vilas, and Washburn. The total cost for these counties, as well as for other in-state residents, is $9,870 for two semesters of 15 credit hours. Students coming from out of state will pay $11,670, and international students in Bay will pay $12,690.

University officials say the increase is due to three factors: student enrollment, an increase in state funding and an increase in property taxes in Delta and Dickinson counties.

Bay pointed to numerous resources available to students, including the FAFSA, scholarships, payment plans and the Federal Work-Study Program.
