Permits to travel, 91 vehicles suspended for violations

KISHTWAR, July 4: The District Transport Authority (Member Secretary), ARTO Kishtwar, under the leadership of Chairman District Road Safety Commission Kishtwar/ Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr Devansh Yadav, today launched a strict crackdown on those involved in illegal cattle trade, smuggling and other traffic offences in the district.
Acting on the recommendations of the IGP Traffic Police and Commissioner (Transport), Jammu, Deputy Regional Transport Officer (Member Secretary) ARTO Kishtwar, Mohd Saleem Manhas suspended the Registration Certificates (RC) and Passes of 91 vehicles, including 66 vehicles involved in habitual violation of traffic rules and 25 vehicles involved in illegal transportation of cattle during the last three months under various relevant provisions of the law.
Saleem Manhas said that in the last three months, a number of FIRs have been filed in connection with the large-scale crackdown in the district and the intensified drive by the Motor Vehicles Department is aimed at disrupting the logistics of smuggling operations, making it harder for smugglers to transport livestock illegally. It is also aimed at enforcing traffic rules, preventing accidents and ensuring a safe environment for all road users.
It is worth mentioning here that during the period between April 1 and June 30, 2024, the Kishtwar MVD penalised 1,267 vehicles for various offences and imposed a fine of Rs 10.72 lakh on the violators.
The Chairman of the Road Safety Committee has issued a stern warning to all cattle smugglers and vehicle owners whose vehicles were used for cattle smuggling or who were found violating traffic rules, ordering them to desist from their malpractice, failing which they will face strict action, including cancellation of their vehicle documents.
