Newark officer provides lunch and safety materials at local center

NEWARK, New Jersey—K. Eley, a Community Service Officer from the 4th Precinct, recently provided lunch at The Better Life Engagement Center on 14th Avenue. The meal included baked chicken, macaroni and cheese, and a vegetable side dish.

During the event, Officer Eley also took the opportunity to hand out public safety materials and engage with attendees by sharing valuable safety tips and information.

Trenton man charged in fatal shooting

TRENTON, NJ—The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of Divon Ray, a 24-year-old Trenton resident, following a fatal shooting incident. Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said a joint effort by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force (MCHTF) and the Trenton Shooting Response Team led to the charges.

Ray is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old Samier Vincent, as well as eight counts of attempted first-degree murder and various weapons offenses. Authorities arrested Ray in Trenton last Wednesday and have filed a motion to hold him pending trial.

The incident occurred just after 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024, when Trenton Police were notified by Shot Spotter of a shooting in the 100 block of Walnut Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and found four adults suffering from gunshot wounds. All victims were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Vincent, who suffered a critical gunshot wound to the head/neck, died from his injuries on June 27. Two other victims were treated and released, while a 29-year-old woman remains in the hospital in serious condition.

Deadly Times Square Hotel Attack Leaves One Dead

NEW YORK, NY—A tragic incident at the Riu Hotel in Times Square resulted in the death of 53-year-old Efrain Patino Guerra. The incident occurred on Monday, June 17, 2024, when Time Square Unit officers responded to a 911 call about an assault at 145 West 47th Street, in the Midtown North Precinct.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Patino Guerra, of 40-35 Hampton Street, Queens, New York, had already been transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in critical condition.

He was punched in the face by an unknown man, as a result of which he fell and suffered serious injuries.

Ten days later he died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation into the assault is ongoing. The NYPD is asking for anyone with information to help solve this case.

Public assistance sought to locate missing Bronx teen

BRONX, NEW YORK— The New York Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating 15-year-old D’Asia Jones-Bedgood, who was reported missing from her home on Anderson Avenue in the 44th Ward. She was last seen leaving her home on Friday, June 28, 2024 at approximately 8:30 a.m.

D’Asia is described as a black female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, blue shorts, black shoes and a brown hoodie.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to contact the New York Police Department to assist in her safe return.
