Santa Rosa juvenile charged with possession of a weapon

(KRON) — A juvenile who police said was a known gang member with an outstanding arrest warrant was chased on foot and arrested Thursday, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. Officers found a loaded, concealed handgun on the juvenile during the arrest, police said.

Just before 5 p.m., Santa Rosa police were patrolling the 1200 block of Cleveland Avenue near College Avenue and Highway 101. Officers encountered a juvenile who police knew had an outstanding warrant, SRPD said. The juvenile fled from officers when they tried to make contact with him, spurring a brief foot chase.

When Santa Rosa officers detained the juvenile, police found a Glock Model 17 9mm handgun with a loaded 17-round magazine, SRPD said. An additional loaded 22-round magazine was also found.

Police said the gun had been modified to remove identifying markings.

The juvenile was arrested and booked into the juvenile detention center on charges of carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, possession of a concealed firearm by a juvenile, obliterating the identifying markings of a firearm, resisting arrest, and having an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Sonoma County.

Due to the minor’s age, his name was not disclosed.
