Firefighters rescue many residents from a high-rise building fire


There are no reports of injuries in an overnight fire at a high-rise building in Ottawa’s Carlington neighbourhood.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a call at a multi-family residence in the 1000 block of Lepage Avenue at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Friday, July 5.

Several emergency workers calling 911 reported alarms and visible smoke on the third floor of the building.

Upon arrival, firefighters entered the third floor and were greeted by smoke.

A fire was reported at 2:23 a.m. and firefighters rescued several people inside the building.

The fire was brought under control in less than 10 minutes. A fire investigator is currently working to determine its source and course.

The Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army will provide assistance to those affected by the incident.
