Seven people charged in Dundee domestic violence crackdown

Seven people have been arrested and charged during a police operation to tackle domestic violence in Dundee.

As part of the operation, police arrested six men and one woman aged between 26 and 48.

Throughout the week, officers worked closely with partner agencies to provide support to alleged victims.

Police did not confirm the exact location of the arrests, but said reports would be forwarded to prosecutors in all cases.

Police recorded 61,934 incidents of domestic violence in Scotland in 2022-23, with the highest number of incidents recorded in the city of Dundee.

However, most domestic violence incidents go unreported. The latest Scottish Crime and Justice Survey (2018-20) estimates that fewer than one in five incidents are reported to the police.

Detective Inspector Graeme Templar said: “Tackling violent and sexual crime is a priority for Police Scotland and there is nowhere for criminals to hide.

“We know how difficult it is for people to report these types of incidents, but it is important they understand they are not alone.

“Help is available and will be heard.

“Anyone with any concerns should contact Police Scotland on 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
