Firefighters respond to blaze at popular North End deli

Halifax Regional Fire and Rescue (HRFE) crews were called to the Brothers Meats and Delicatessen store on Agricola Street during rush hour on Thursday morning.

HRFE Deputy Chief Dave Meldrum told CityNews that crews found fire inside the chimney when they arrived on scene. Meldrum said firefighters checked the interior of some of the business’s walls and ceiling and determined that the fire had not spread from its original location.

HRFE said the deli suffered minor fire, smoke and water damage and that no injuries were reported in the incident. The cause is under investigation.

On the way home in the morning, due to the work of fire crews, traffic in the area of the fire was difficult.
