“Where do we go? We have lived in this area for over 50 years,” said residents of Shelley Road in Salt River, Cape Town, who received notices from the City of Cape Town on June 26 that their leases and tenancies could be terminated.

Farieda Benting, a 64-year-old mother of two who lives at 20 Shelley Road in Salt River, said she received a notice from the city ordering her to vacate her home by July 31, 2024.

Benting said she applied for the grant but did not receive any assistance.
