RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has decided to go on hunger strike over the ill-treatment he faced in prison, party sources said. Geo News.

Sources said the imprisoned former prime minister would announce the strike date after consultations with the party leadership.

They said he had called his party leaders a day ago but the Adiala jail authorities did not allow them to meet. Khan waited inside the jail while party leaders waited outside for three hours, trying to hold a meeting, they said.

After the meeting request was rejected, the PTI founder issued directives to the leaders not to create internal conflicts in the society.

“A day ago, the PTI founder summoned the leaders of both the factions to jail to end the misunderstandings between them,” the sources said.

Talking to media outside Adiala Jail on Thursday, PTI leaders said they were denied permission to meet the party founder at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi despite waiting for several hours outside the facility.

Since being removed as prime minister in April 2022, Imran has faced a range of charges, from corruption to terrorism, making him the only prime minister to be voted out.

The PTI founder has been in prison since August last year and was convicted in some cases ahead of national elections earlier this year. He is also fighting dozens of other cases.

His release from prison seemed certain last month, but an Islamabad court dismissed his bid to stay his iddat sentence.
