Suspected drunk driver arrested after crash at Eyota garage

Eyota, MN (KROC-AM News)- Police have arrested a drunk driving suspect who crashed into the garage of a home in Eyota.

Lt. Malinda Hanson with the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office said the crash was reported around 7:40 Wednesday evening.

According to Hanson, witnesses flagged down a sheriff’s deputy as the suspect vehicle attempted to leave the scene.

The vehicle struck a garage adjacent to a home in the 100 block of Madison Ave.

Officers who arrived at the scene found the driver, who was identified as 33 years old Arturo Oropeza Jimenezstill sitting in the driver’s seat of the car.

Police suspected the Rochester man was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving.

Jimenez was taken to the Olmsted County Jail, where he was given a Breathalyzer test that showed his blood-alcohol level was .12, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Officers then took Jimenez to St. Mary’s Hospital for evaluation. He was cleared by doctors and then returned to jail, according to Hanson.

Hanson says Jimenez could be charged with third-degree DUI, fifth-degree possession of drugs and driving after a revoked license. The report does not say what type of drug was found during the arrest and booking.

No injuries were reported. Hanson said the garage and a vehicle parked inside were damaged in the collision. A damage estimate is not yet available.
