Bauchi Police Arrest Three for Child Abuse and Rape

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested three men across the state on charges of child abuse and rape.

A certain 50-year-old Abubakar Nuhu, popularly known as Wanzam of Gwallagan Mayaka, was arrested for inhumane treatment of his biological son.

According to a statement issued by the state police spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, the command received a complaint from the District Chief of Gwallagan Mayaka in Bauchi that a resident of the district disclosed that “his wife Amina (name changed) informed him that she saw a 5-year-old boy of a neighbour tied with a chain in a room.

“Upon receiving information, a team of detectives led by CSP Mubarak S. Baba DPO D’ Division (Dutsena Tanshi) rushed to the scene and rescued the boy.”

The statement explained that “during the interview, the victim identified himself as Hussaini Abubakar ‘m’ 5 years. He revealed that he was treated inhumanely by his biological father Abubakar Nuhu ‘m’ 50 years and further stated that he was imprisoned except for any humane treatment by his father for many days which he cannot specify and also spent three days without food.”

The state police PRO added that Police Commissioner Auwal Muhammad ordered the District Police Officer to detain the criminal for investigation and charging him with the crime committed.“According to the accused, he was supposed to keep the minor locked up to stop him from stealing valuables belonging to a neighbour, and he was advised to do so by a friend,” the statement reads.

It was further revealed that the CP ordered the case to be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department and also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of CID to investigate the crux of the matter and other motives behind the dastardly act.

In a related incident, the Police Command also revealed that “one Suleiman Musa, aged 28, residing behind Nitel community, lured one Amina (name changed) aged 9 residing at the same address to his room located at the same place while she was out shopping and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

“During the interrogation, the suspects voluntarily admitted to committing the crime. The investigation is still ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged in court with committing the established crime.”

Again, the order revealed the arrest of “one Bali Mohammed ‘m’ aged 67 years who lured two girls, one Safiya (name changed) ‘f’ aged 17 years and Hassana (name changed) ‘f’ aged 16 years, both from Unguwan Mahaukata, to his room and had sexual intercourse with them after which he gave them five hundred naira, the victims explained.

“During the interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to committing the crime and confirmed the victim’s statements,” the statement said, adding that an investigation was ongoing, after which the suspect would be profiled and charged in court.
