Firefighters say the garbage bin fire was caused by fireworks

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Powdersville Fire Department confirmed a dumpster fire Thursday morning was caused by improper disposal of fireworks.

Firefighters responded before 4 a.m. to a business on Highway 153 in response to a fire.

A backup line was used to extinguish the fire, officials said.

Due to the container’s proximity to the building, firefighters said the decorative lights actually melted from the heat of the fire. Officials believe the fire did not spread to the structure because the container was nearly empty.

While at the scene, officers found fireworks containers that had been placed in a garbage can before being soaked.

The cause of the fire was determined to be improper waste disposal.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The fire is still under investigation by the Powdersville Fire Department.
