One of two juveniles has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after prosecutors said they fired shots during a robbery and attempted home invasion that left a woman shot in Woodstock.

Quran Broomfield, then 17, of Rockford, was charged in March 2023 as an adult with armed robbery, attempted home invasion, aggravated use of a firearm, two counts of aggravated use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a handgun by a person under 18.

According to an indictment filed by prosecutors, Broomfield, now 18, “took a significant step” toward entering a home in the 1700 block of Yasgur Drive in Woodstock on Jan. 24, 2022, knowing there were people inside.

Prosecutors said Broomfield used force when he shot into the house with a firearm.

Prosecutors said the teenager, threatening him with a gun, stole a phone and headphones from another minor.

Prosecutors said Broomfield also illegally possessed a 9mm handgun because he was a minor and did not have a firearms identification card.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a woman with a gunshot wound to the arm.

Woodstock Fire/Rescue District transported the victim to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock.

She was then transported by LifeStar medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

Police said at the time that the suspects fired several shots at the woman and her friend before fleeing the scene in a white sedan, possibly a Cadillac CTS.

Prosecutors said they and two other victims got into a car to drive to the store when Broomfield and his accomplices approached the car.

They ordered everyone to leave, threatening them with weapons and taking their phones and personal belongings.

The men tried unsuccessfully to enter the victims’ home. Broomfield and his co-offender fired several shots into the house as they were leaving, prosecutors said.

It was determined that the bullet that hit the woman was fired by an accomplice.

The suspects were suspected of stealing a vehicle and committing several armed robberies in the Rockford area shortly after the Woodstock incident, Woodstock Police Chief John Lieb said at the time.

Court documents show that in early December 2022, Broomfield was committed to juvenile court and detained.

He was released from custody and released to his mother less than two weeks later, but was charged as an adult in March 2023 and remanded into custody.

Court records show that in addition to Broomfield, other suspects who are juveniles have also been charged.

On Wednesday, Broomfield pleaded guilty to armed robbery, a Class X felony, in exchange for having the remaining charges dismissed.

McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt granted the motion and sentenced Broomfield to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, under the terms of the plea agreement.

Prosecutors said the settlement offer was made after consultations with victims and law enforcement.
