The faces of women who broke into a pensioner’s home and stole his wallet

These are the faces of two women who broke into a pensioner’s home in Sneinton and stole his wallet. Dawn Charles and Tanya Rowley then withdrew hundreds of pounds in cash from the elderly man’s bank account on December 11 last year after their heartless theft.

But they were tracked down when a CCTV camera above a cash machine in a store where they were withdrawing money caught them red-handed. In total, the pair gained access to around £700, including £600 in cash they withdrew and £100 via two contactless payments.

However, CCTV footage, as well as footage from the man’s home, allowed police to track down the two men and arrest them 11 days later, on December 22. Charles, 41, tried to hide her face, but a tattoo on her ankle gave away who she was.

The gold hairband seen in the footage was also found at her home address. Rowley, 47, was identified by her distinctive black boots and long quilted jacket, police said.

Both women admitted burglary and fraud by false representation, while Rowley also admitted possession of Class A drugs. Charles, of Sneinton Road, Sneinton, was sentenced to two years and five months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, July 3.

Rowley, of Tewkesbury Drive, Basford, was sentenced to two years and two months in prison. Both were also made subject to an order banning them from further contact with the victim.

Detective Inspector Chris Harris, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a horrific experience for the victim who was attacked in her own home by these offenders. Despite their best efforts to conceal their identities, they soon made enough mistakes for us to track them down and bring them to justice.

“I am pleased they have now gone to prison and hope this outcome brings some relief to the victim and her family.”
