Lancaster officer completes basic police training course, joins father at department

Columbus, Ohio – Cole A. Williams of the Lancaster Police Department was among 44 officers who graduated from the 150th Basic Peace Officer class at a graduation ceremony Wednesday afternoon at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Training Academy.

It was a special graduation for one of Lancaster’s officers, Terry Williams, who watched his son graduate and then follow in his footsteps to work alongside him at the Lancaster Police Department. Officer Williams has been at the academy since February and is excited to begin his career in law enforcement.

The 21-week intensive training program, which began in February, included comprehensive training in more than 150 topics, including criminal law, traffic law, community relations, physical training, self-defense, firearms, emergency vehicle operation, standardized field sobriety tests and electronic speed measuring devices. The course meets and exceeds the requirements set forth by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission and is recognized as a “STAR-certified” academy by the Ohio Attorney General.
