NORTH TOPSAIL, N.C. (WNCT) — North Topsail residents had their hands full Thursday as water rescues took place.

City Manager Alice Derian said crews rescued two people from the ocean. One person was treated and taken to a nearby hospital, while the other refused any treatment.

Derian added that they are still searching for the 14-year-old boy who went missing in the New River Inlet. She said they ended the search around 4 p.m. Thursday and will resume Friday.

Derian said the entire New River Inlet, including the surrounding ocean waters, was searched, and the U.S. Coast Guard also searched by helicopter. The North Topsail Beach Police Department will continue to conduct checks throughout Thursday evening.
