The boy who died of heat-related issues after being rescued while hiking on South Mountain has been identified as Cortinez Logan.

Police said the 10-year-old and his family had recently moved to Phoenix from Missouri.

The boy died Tuesday after suffering a “heat-related emergency” while hiking with his family on South Mountain, Phoenix police said.

Detectives are investigating the death, which occurred after officers were called just before 3 p.m. July 2 to South Mountain Park and Preserve to assist an injured hiker.

The boy was airlifted in an ambulance and taken to hospital in critical condition. He later died of heat-related complications, police said in a statement.
