91 Route Permits, RCs Suspended for Cattle Smuggling and Other Offences in Kishtwar

KISHTWAR, July 4: In a bid to ensure road safety and curb traffic violations, the District Transport Authority (Secretary) ARTO Kishtwar, under the leadership of District Road Safety Committee Chairman (Deputy Commissioner) Dr Devansh Yadav, has launched a massive crackdown on those involved in illegal cattle trade and other traffic violations in the district.

Acting on the recommendations of the IGP Traffic Police and Commissioner (Transport), Jammu, Deputy Regional Transport Officer (Member Secretary) ARTO Mohammad Saleem Manhas suspended 66 travel permits/registration certificates related to habitual violators of traffic rules and 25 travel permits/registration certificates related to illegal transportation of cattle during the last three months.
ARTO said a number of FIRs have been registered in the last three months. “The drive by the Motor Vehicle Department was designed to disrupt the logistics of smuggling operations, making it difficult for smugglers to transport livestock illegally. Moreover, the drive is aimed at enforcing traffic rules and regulations, preventing accidents and ensuring a safe environment for all road users,” it added.
During the period from April 1, 2024 to June 30, 2024, the Kishtwar MVD issued tickets to 1,267 vehicles for various offences, thereby earning a revenue of Rs 10.72 lakh under fines.
Road Safety Commission Chairman DC Kishtwar has issued a stern warning to all cattle smugglers and vehicle owners whose vehicles are found to be used for cattle smuggling or violating traffic rules to desist from their malpractice, failing which strict action will be taken against them, including cancellation of vehicle documents.
