Judge allows ASML expansion near residential area

Chip machine manufacturer ASML can continue its expansion plans near a residential area in Veldhoven. Two residents challenged the zoning plans in the Council of State. A judge dismissed the objections as “unfounded”.

Among other things, local residents feared that this would cause noise and traffic problems. Specifically, the case concerned the development plans for De Run 7000. This is the area between the Kempenbaan in Veldhoven and the A67 motorway, and this part is already used by ASML.

The company wants to build so-called cleanrooms there, or rooms where even the smallest dust particles are cleaned from the air. ASML wants to produce its latest chip-making machines there. The Veldhoven city council approved the zoning plans at the end of 2022. As a result of the court’s ruling, construction can now actually begin.
