Senator Kildare proposes domestic violence register to combat abuse

As with the Sex Offenders Register, Gardai will be able to, upon request, inform an individual if their partner has a history of violence.

We hope that a register of domestic violence perpetrators will be established in Ireland as soon as possible.

As with the Sex Offenders Register, Gardai will be able to, upon request, inform an individual if their partner has a history of violence.

The call for the establishment of a Domestic Violence Register comes after several recent high-profile incidents of domestic and gender-based violence in courts.

Kildare Senator Fiona O’Loughlin, who proposed the Register, believes we should look at the UK model.
