10-year-old boy injured after fireworks explode

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A 10-year-old boy is now home after being treated for burns caused by a fireworks explosion.

The family asked us not to identify him.

However, his grandfather contacted News 4 and sent us photos to warn others during this holiday.

We spoke to him on the phone and he says he purchased four Barrett M-107 fireworks.

Of the four, two exploded, one of them injuring his grandson.

Eva Fair works closely with the sparklers at Fireworks Warehouse in northeast Oklahoma City.

“Be careful…sometimes something can go wrong and cause a big explosion,” Fair said.

Fireworks Warehouse owner Kent Herzog recommends that only adults use fireworks.

“Yes, we want kids to enjoy fireworks, but we want adults to use them,” Herzog said.

A “punk” is the name of an object that will allow adults to light fireworks without open flames.

These are recommended by Herzog, to stay safe and injury-free during this vacation.
