Miedema’s star stats at a glance

Talented Dutch striker Vivianne Miedema has signed a three-year contract with Manchester City at the Joie Stadium.

The Dutch international joins Gareth Taylor’s side after a seven-year spell at Arsenal, during which she broke a number of individual records and became the Barclays Women’s Super League’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Her current haul in the division since its inception is 80, and she looks to add to that tally while playing in blue.

Before she joins her new teammates, find out more about Miedema’s phenomenal goal-scoring exploits below…

Back to the grid

Miedema made 106 WSL appearances for Arsenal, during which she became the league’s all-time leading scorer with a total of 80 goals.

As a result, she averages 0.74 goals per game – but she is more than just a goalscorer.

Another fantastic achievement that the Dutch international can boast is that he became the first player in the history of the competition to score 100 goals, have 70 shots and make 30 assists.

This achievement is even more remarkable because she only made 83 appearances in it.

She has recorded a total of 35 assists in the WSL, which places her third all-time in that category.

In addition, she was also the fastest player to reach 50 WSL goals (in 50 games) and had the most consecutive games with goals against the same opponents – seven in a row against Reading.

Dreadful Enemies

With 11 goals to his name, Bristol City are Miedema’s favourite opponents in the WSL.

Interestingly, in December 2019, she scored six goals in one match against Vixens as Arsenal beat them 11-1 at Meadow Park.

The Dutch international reached double figures in her goal tally against Reading, scoring 12 goals against the Royals, closely followed by nine against Liverpool.

It should come as no surprise then that she became the first player in the history of the competition to score against every opponent she faced.

ON THE LEFT SIDE

Given her incredible ability and sheer numbers in helping her team-mates, it would be unfair to suggest Miedema is little more than a poacher in this area.

However, the Dutch striker’s statistics in the penalty area further underline her high value all over the pitch – the majority of her shots come from this part of the pitch.

Of the 80 goals in the league, 70 have been scored from inside the penalty area and an impressive 10 from long range.

HAT-TRICK HERO

The WSL also tops the list with the striker who has scored the most hat-tricks in the league – five, which puts her level on points with her new City teammate Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw.

Her first treble came in September 2018 in a 5-0 win over Liverpool for Arsenal, and she then scored three goals in matches against Reading, Bristol City (twice) and Tottenham Hotspur.

AWARDS

Throughout her distinguished career to date, Miedema has won numerous team and individual accolades.

To date, it has won three top-flight titles: two Bundesliga championships (2014/15 and 2015/16) and a WSL (2018/19).

While playing for the Gunners, she also won three Continental Cups.

The 27-year-old’s dominance on the domestic market also translated onto the international stage, where she helped the Netherlands win the 2017 UEFA Women’s Euro in her home country.

Her outstanding goalscoring achievements have earned her the WSL Golden Boot in 2018/19 and 2019/20, a place in the FIFA Women’s World Cup All-Star Squad (2019), the PFA Female Player of the Year (2018/19), FWA Women’s Player of the Year (2019/20), inclusion in the FIFA FIFPro Women’s World11 (2020 and 2021) (BBC Women’s Player of the Year: 2021) and a place in the PFA Team of the Year (2018/19, 2019/20, 2021/22).
