EastEnders’ Linda Carter faces dilemma over Alfie’s departure storyline

EastEnders spoilers below.

EastEnders star Linda Carter will have a big decision to make next week when Alfie asks her to leave Walford with him.

Alfie decides to take a break from Square to celebrate the end of his cancer treatment and asks Linda, who is struggling with the disease, to join him.

Linda wakes up in The Vic earlier this week full of regret following her drunken outburst at Alfie the week before.

Linda confides in Elaine about what happened, and Alfie has a heart-to-heart with Ian, who urges him to take some time off to celebrate the end of his cancer treatment.

When Linda later runs into Alfie, she apologizes for avoiding him.

Alfie explains that he is leaving the Square for a while and they head to his apartment for a heart-to-heart talk, during which he invites Linda to accompany him.

As Linda considers Alfie’s offer, she spots Karen in the square and decides to make a decision. She rushes back to The Vic to pack her suitcase.

Elaine catches Linda and tries to convince her not to go, but Linda insists she is going with Alfie.

Stacey is shocked when Elaine tells her that Linda is leaving Square, and worries what this might mean for her and the other women.

Elaine also has concerns and goes to Alfie to talk, while Linda secretly continues drinking in the pub.

She panics when Karen shows up and starts questioning her about what happened on Christmas Day.

Linda confesses to Elaine that she’s giving up drinking alcohol for good, but Lauren later catches her with a bag of hidden wine from Minute Mart.

Worried, Lauren offers to look after Annie and takes her with her before Linda can agree.

Kathy notices Linda trying to hide the wine, and soon a serious argument breaks out between the pair.

BBC

Ben is eventually forced to intervene, and Linda is coaxed into sobering up by an angry Lauren and Kathy.

Linda spirals even further and heads to The Albert to continue drinking, but can anyone help her at this stage?

BBC

Kellie Bright, who plays her, spoke about Linda’s latest dilemma: “Having to come face to face with Keanu’s mother is probably the worst thing that could happen to Linda, especially on the day she’s born.

“I think this whole meeting is completely unbearable for her and it is pushing her even further towards the limit of her endurance.

“She’s desperate to escape and run away. It seems like the perfect option (to go with Alfie).

“I think Alfie is a good friend to her. He stands by her. She’s deep in her addiction and he hasn’t turned his back on her. He’s trying to help her and support her, even though he doesn’t know what’s going on.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One. The programme is also broadcast on BBC iPlayer, with most episodes appearing early, at 6am, before their television broadcast.
