Jude Bellingham has been handed a one-match ban and fined €30,000 (£25,000) by UEFA for his controversial gesture against Slovakia.

The decision means he will be available for England’s crucial Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Switzerland on Saturday.

The European Football Association has launched an investigation into a gesture the footballer made during Sunday’s win over Slovakia in Bellingham – which he allegedly pretended to grab his genitals.

UEFA wrote to Bellingham asking for an explanation for his actions, while the organisation contacted the Slovak Football Federation for comments on the alleged misconduct.

It is claimed that this gesture was made towards the Slovak judge.

The star has avoided an immediate ban and can play in the quarter-finals of the European Championship in England.

Bellingham is known to have stood by his statement that the gesture was an “inside joke”.

After the match, when footage of the gesture emerged, Bellingham tweeted: “Inside joke to close friends who were at the match. Nothing but respect for the way that Slovakia team played tonight.”

Despite this, 21-year-old Bellingham was fined and given a 12-month, one-match ban by UEFA.
