Deputy seriously injured after suspect runs him over in Tampa: HCSO

TAMPA, Fla. — Officials say a suspect struck and killed a sheriff’s deputy Friday morning, leaving him seriously injured.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said at approximately 12:05 a.m. Deputy Kalin Hall, 33, attempted to stop a black BMW on Bearss Avenue near Nebraska Avenue. The suspect then fled the scene.

At approximately 12:25 a.m., Hall attempted to pull over the vehicle a second time on Plantation Oaks Drive. The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office said that when Hall got out of the vehicle, the suspect struck him, causing him to suffer a broken leg.

Hall was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he is in stable condition and will undergo surgery. He has been with HCSO for 11 years.

Detectives said they located the suspect’s abandoned vehicle about a mile from the second stop and identified its owner. They are questioning the owner but do not yet have a suspect in custody.
