Man in hospital after ‘serious’ attack as he tried to intervene in row at Edinburgh bus stop

A man was seriously injured after trying to intervene in an argument in Edinburgh.

Police were called to the number 30 bus stop on Princes Street, westbound between Charlotte Street and Castle Street, at around midnight to reports of a man with serious injuries.

Further investigation revealed that the 47-year-old man had attempted to intervene in an argument between a man and a woman.

The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh with serious injuries.

Police said the suspect and the woman boarded the N11 Lothian bus on Lothian Road, travelling towards Morningside, at around 12.05am.

Police are appealing to anyone with any information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Ryan Webster said: “We are investigating and would appeal to anyone with information to contact us.

“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or was at the bus stop to contact us.

“We also want to speak to the couple on board bus N11 who had contact with the suspect and the woman on the upper deck.

“Anyone who can help is asked to contact the police on the following number: 101citing incident 1035 dated 2nd July 2024. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111“where you can remain anonymous.”
