Jude Bellingham and four other England players face suspension ahead of clash with Switzerland

Jude Bellingham will not be suspended for England’s Euro 2024 match against Switzerland on Saturday.

The 21-year-old is still at risk of suspension, however, as the Three Lions fight to advance to the semi-finals of the competition.

England will be without defender Marc Guehi for this clash, despite the Crystal Palace star having impressed so far at the tournament in Germany.

Guehi received his second yellow card at Euro 2024 in the 2-1 win over Slovakia on Sunday, after being shown a yellow card in the goalless draw with Slovenia on Matchday 3.

England are expected to replace the centre-back with Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa.

However, the Three Lions will need to be careful on Saturday as they look to secure a place in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

Bellingham was shown a yellow card against Slovakia as his temper flared.

And while he avoided a suspension against Switzerland, his caution in his latest appearance means he is teetering on the edge of risk.

If Bellingham gets a yellow card again he will miss the semi-finals – if England manage to get there.

The same is true for four of his teammates.

Conor Gallagher was shown a yellow card in the 1-1 draw with Denmark on Matchday 2, meaning the Chelsea star can no longer break the rules.

Kieran Trippier and Phil Foden received yellow cards in the match against Slovenia.

Kobbie Mainoo will also have to be extra careful against Switzerland after being booked against Slovakia on Sunday.

If England win their match against Switzerland on Saturday without major problems, all yellow cards will be rescinded.

This means the only way for a player to not make it to the final is to receive a red card.

It will be interesting to see which of the reserved players will be in the starting lineup.

Bellingham and Foden are expected to play in the No. 10 position, while Trippier could play as a right-winger.

Mainoo is expected to play in midfield alongside Declan Rice, with Gallagher expected to sit on the bench.

And if England win they will be just two wins away from securing their first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.

John Stones said on Thursday their 2-1 win over Slovakia could be a “turning point” for their tournament.

“I think it’s an emotional turning point that we did it at such a stressful moment and with a few minutes left in the game,” he said.

“I think experiencing these emotions will change a lot for the team.

“There’s a great photo of us celebrating that goal and all the bench disappearing and the staff disappearing from their seats in the stands. It shows the unity as a team.

“When you do those things, you believe even more that you can do it better when the going gets tough. I learned quickly throughout my career to let that go.

“Especially after the iconic moment of my career when we played Aston Villa and scored in the last few minutes, I had the same feeling in that game and I tried to use it in the game the day before to get out of that mindset and turn it into a positive one.

“We believe we can really win and we believe we can get the points. It paid off. I thought we were going home after 60 minutes of the game and for everyone to change their attitude and keep that belief and faith has a lot of power, I think, for ourselves and for the other teams.

“Anyone watching at home knows we’re there to get it right until the last minute. Literally. And I think we should take a lot of confidence from that – it’s something that’s not easy, especially in a game under a lot of pressure.

“It’s understandable that the fans weren’t happy with the performance. We’re aware of that and I think we’re using that as fuel to try to take that extra step and make it count.

“My time here has allowed me to repeat that at every tournament, whether it’s something big for us or we have to grab it with both hands and move on to the next stage.”
