IMPD Investigating Serious Crash On Northwest Side – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police are trying to determine if a shooting occurred just before a multi-vehicle crash on the city’s Northwest Side.

At about 6 a.m. Friday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1800 block of North Harding Street, a residential area about three-tenths of a mile east of Riverside Park.

Police arrived at the intersection of 18th Street and Harding Street and found a crash involving two cars and an IndyGo bus. The windshield of the IndyGo bus was thrown out in the crash and found intact several feet away.

IMPD says two people from one car were taken to the hospital. One of them, a woman, was shot. Her condition was listed as critical.

Investigators believe there were “several people” in the second car, but did not provide an exact number.

According to IMPD Public Information Officer Tommy Thompson, two people with injuries later showed up at the hospital and police believe they were related to the incident.

An IMPD investigator on the scene told News 8 the IndyGo driver was not injured and was the only passenger to survive the crash before emergency crews arrived.

IMPD police say they are treating the crash scene as a crime scene and detectives are trying to get a search warrant for one of the vehicles to see if there are any weapons items inside.

Harding Street will remain closed “for some time” between 16th and 18th streets because an IndyGo bus was involved in a crash, Officer Thompson said.
