July 4: Family of Chicago police officer and firefighter receive surprise bike and White Sox tickets thanks to Buddy

The children of two Chicago first responders got a surprise on July 4th, thanks to Buddy’s help.

CHICAGO (WLS) — As the country celebrates another anniversary of regaining freedom, ABC7 Chicago took a moment to pay tribute to the rescuers.

Thousands of Chicago CPD officers and firefighters are working around the clock to keep the city safe during the holiday season.

The ABC7 crew was joined by CPD Officer Herson Navarro and his daughter Sophia, as well as Chicago firefighter Lawrence Knitter and his son Grayson.

Rescuers talked about the impact that working on important dates has on their personal lives.

Joe Trost from Buddy’s HELPERS also joined in and had a surprise for us.

The surprise was prepared by high school students from the Chicago area.
