Manchester City put their stamp on new signing Vivianne Miedema

Manchester City have signed Women’s Super League top scorer Vivianne Miedema on a three-year contract after the Dutch international’s contract with Arsenal expired.

After seven seasons in London, the 27-year-old striker, who has scored 80 league goals, is relishing the opportunity to take on a new challenge.

“I chose City because they have the same ambitions as me. They want to win the league and titles,” said Miedema, who was reunited with Dutch team-mates Jill Roord and Kerstin Casparij.

“Looking to the future I have always said I want to play with the best players in the world and I think City have that.

“I haven’t played as much football as I would have liked over the last two years, but I think and hope that my best years are still ahead of me.

“If I get back to my best form, we can achieve a lot together.”

Miedema is Arsenal’s top scorer (Manchester City F.C.)

“I think this is where I need to be right now. Ultimately, it was an easy choice for me. I want to challenge myself every day in training, but also every week in the games we play.”

City manager Gareth Taylor believes Miedema’s arrival will boost the team’s chances of winning a trophy.

“Our ambition is to compete at the highest level and for the highest honours, and Viv shares that desire,” he said.

“She is a talented individual and someone I look forward to working with. Viv will be a real asset to the team.”
