BART suspends direct service to Millbrae

For the second time in 10 days, BART passengers in Richmond and Millbrae have lost direct service to the two cities.

BART announced around 6:40 a.m. that it was closing Red Line service between stations in the two cities all day Friday because of a fault in a section of track. The agency did not say whether the problem was related to the Bay Area heat wave.

According to the agency, repair work on the tracks will be done at night. All stations on the red line remained open despite the closure of direct service.

BART urged passengers in Richmond to take an Orange Line train to Berryessa Station and transfer at MacArthur Station to a Yellow Line train between Antioch and Millbrae. Passengers at Millbrae had to catch a shuttle bus to San Francisco Airport Station and then take a Yellow Line train to Antioch. Once at MacArthur Station, those passengers could transfer to an Orange Line train to Richmond.

The Red Line was also taken out of service on June 26 after a track maintenance vehicle derailed overnight, blocking a section of track near the 19th Street Oakland station.
