Philadelphia mass shooting: 9 people shot, including 3 minors, near 60th Street and Kingsessing Ave. in Southwest Philly

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — One person was killed and eight others were injured in a mass shooting in Southwest Philadelphia on Thursday evening, July 4.

Police said nine people, four juveniles and five adults, were shot in Southwest Philadelphia on Thursday evening.

Police say nine people, three juveniles and six adults, were shot near the intersection of 60th Street and Kingsessing Ave. at 11:40 p.m.

Officers on routine patrol found one victim lying on the ground.

Responding police officers found additional victims, some of whom were taken to local hospitals.

Action News received information that the juveniles are between 14 and 16 years old.

The homicide victim has not yet been identified, but police said he was in his 20s. He was shot once in the head and pronounced dead at the hospital.

The condition of the remaining victims is described as stable.

Officers said the crime scene spanned more than two blocks and that a barbecue may have been taking place there at the time.

Police did not provide a description of any potential suspects or release information about a possible motive.

“We don’t have any motive at this point,” said Inspector Kpana Massaquoi of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Authorities are still looking for the person or people responsible.
