Inmate found dead at Porter County Jail in northwest Indiana, sheriff’s office says

Porter County, Ind. (WLS) — An inmate was found dead at a prison in northwest Indiana on Thursday.

Authorities responded to a call about an unconscious inmate who was not breathing around 8:10 p.m. at the Porter County Jail, the Porter County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived.

The age or identity of the prisoner was not disclosed.

An investigation into the death is ongoing.
