Vanessa Poyner – Fort Scott Biz

Vanessa Poyner, 46, has been the new dean of students at Fort Scott Community College since June 11. Her office is located in the Office of Student Affairs in Bailey Hall.

Poyner earned an Associate of Science degree from Fort Scott Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Missouri Southern State University, and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Cincinnati.

“Having 18 years of experience teaching criminal justice at Fort Scott Community College, I have always been very student-centered and motivated to help students both inside and outside the classroom achieve their life goals,” she said.

“As dean of students at Fort Scott Community College, I oversee student services departments including admissions, registrar, advising, TRIO, student housing and student activities,” she said. “In addition to these responsibilities, I serve as the TITLE IX coordinator on campus, ensuring compliance and addressing Title IX issues. I am also committed to playing a key role as a student advocate, supporting and advocating for the needs and interests of our students.”
