CLOVER, South Carolina (NEWS FROM THE QUEEN’S CITY) — A Clover city employee has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say he shot at officers during an hours-long standoff.

The incident began just after midnight on Stanton Street in Clover. Police responded to a call about a possible domestic situation.

Police said the suspect, identified as William Dean Jeffreris, a 57-year-old Clover city employee, fired multiple shots inside the home.

Detectives said several attempts were made to contact Jeffreris by phone as gunshots were heard from inside. Several more Clover officers arrived at the home and Jeffreris reportedly fired at the officers who were outside.

SWAT was called to the scene and cleared all the surrounding homes. After about five hours, Jeffreris was apprehended by SWAT and turned over to Clover police, who took him to the hospital for evaluation. After being released from the hospital, Jeffreris was arrested.
