A man who demanded one cent in cash during a Florida bank robbery has been arrested and now faces aggravated robbery without a firearm or other weapon charge.

Police responding to a robbery at a Chase Bank branch in Lady Lake, a town about 40 miles north of Orlando, found the suspect still inside the building and “he was taken into custody without incident.”

Michael Patrick Fleming (41) was arrested after he entered the bank earlier, filled out a withdrawal form and handed it to the teller.

“The defendant was told he could not receive the $00.01,” the police report noted.

Fleming reportedly told the cashier, “So you want me to say that second word?” The cashier “feared that violence might ensue” and “notified law enforcement,” police said.

After his arrest, Fleming was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office where he was questioned by investigators.

Fleming reportedly told them, “Most of the time, the way tellers are trained, if someone comes in to rob you, you give them your money and let them go.”

Fleming claimed he expected the teller to “give him $00.01,” adding that he would “then sit in a chair and wait for the law enforcement officers.”

Fleming “said his goal was to make an arrest,” the police report added.
