Fireworks explode in Colorado Springs man’s hand, causing serious injuries

Colorado Springs firefighters responded to 20 fireworks-related fires around July 4. Seven of those fires were in dumpsters, where firefighters arrived to find fireworks being set off in the dumpsters.

Around 10 p.m. Wednesday, the Colorado Springs Fire Department received a call about a serious firework injury in the Cheyenne Mountain area. When crews arrived, a man said he was holding a firework when it exploded in his hand. Firefighters said he lost most of his arm.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department said all fireworks are illegal within city limits. Fire crews said they expect fireworks calls to continue throughout the weekend and that “these incidents are one too many and are preventable.”
